I’m so proud to be an American today. The current debate in this country consists of which of our last two Presidents abused their power via pardons or commutations or which one we want or wanted to impeach the most. We deserve better.
Regarding the recent commutation of Scooter Libby’s sentence, you can not with a straight face be upset with Bill Clinton’s pardon party at the end of his term and be happy with this latest abuse of power by someone in the Oval office. In pardoning Marc Rich and others in the last few days, Clinton sent a message to the Republicans that tried to impeach him. The message was I’m the President and I can do whatever I want. In Bush’s case, the same message applies, although the slight difference here is that Bush is commutating someone who once worked in his administration. Someone convicted of perjury in a court of his peers, by a Republican prosecutor in a court with a Republican appointed judge.
So maybe when comparing the two, Clinton’s abuse of power wasn’t as bad as Bush’s, however there are no winners here.
We Deserve Better!!!
